A, A1, A2, AM driving categories include motorcycles, tricycles, mopeds and light quadricycles. Depending on the mass and power of the vehicle, these categories can be driven from different ages. Motorcycles in Lithuania are a vehicle more often used in the warm season, usually to cover shorter distances than a car. Let's review the features and differences of categories A, A1, A2, AM.
In order to obtain a category A driving license, it is necessary to pass the theoretical examination of the Regitra. KET tickets are simulated Regitra theory exams that help drivers of all categories learn the rules of the road and prepare for the exams. For those who want to update their road rules or prepare for the Regitra exam, we recommend trying our free ket test .

Driving category A includes tricycles with a power of more than 15 kW and motorcycles. With a category A driving license, you can drive vehicles classified in categories AM, A1, A2 without any restrictions.
Category A1 includes motorcycles with an engine displacement of more than 50 cm3 but not more than 125 cm3, a power output not exceeding 11 kW, and a power-to-weight ratio not exceeding 0.1 kW/kg, as well as tricycles with a power output not exceeding 15 kW.
Category A2 includes motorcycles with a power not exceeding 35 kW, a power-to-weight ratio not exceeding 0.2 kW/kg and which are not derived from a vehicle with more than twice the power.
The AM category includes mopeds and light quadricycles.
Moped – a two-wheeled motor vehicle with a maximum design speed of not less than 25 km/h and not more than 45 km/h and with an engine displacement not exceeding 50 cm3 (in the case of an internal combustion engine) and a maximum net power not exceeding 4 kW (in the case of an electric motor), or a three-wheeled motor vehicle with a maximum design speed of not less than 25 km/h and not more than 45 km/h and with an engine displacement not exceeding 50 cm3 (in the case of a spark (positive) ignition engine), a maximum net power not exceeding 4 kW (in the case of another type of internal combustion engine), and a maximum net power not exceeding 4 kW (in the case of an electric motor).
Light quadricycle – a four-wheeled motor vehicle with an unladen mass (excluding batteries, if it is an electric motor-powered vehicle) of no more than 350 kg, a maximum design speed of no more than 45 km/h and an engine displacement of no more than 50 cm3 (in the case of a spark (positive) ignition engine), a maximum net power of no more than 4 kW (in the case of a different type of internal combustion engine), and a maximum nominal power of no more than 4 kW (in the case of an electric motor).
Thus, the main differences between categories A, A1, A2, AM are the power of the vehicles. With categories A, A1, A2 you can drive motorcycles, with category A you can drive tricycles, and with category AM you can drive only mopeds and light quadricycles.
Maintaining categories A, A1, A2 will cost from 440 EUR.
Maintaining the AM category will cost from 10 EUR.
