(NON) Critical Errors at Regitra: Possible Error Types 2025

What types of errors can be recorded in the practice exam?

The following errors may be recorded during the practical exam:

  • non-critical (NC) – an action that demonstrates an insufficient level of skill of the examinee, but does not in itself pose a threat to any road user or interfere with the safe operation of the vehicle, i.e. does not create a potentially dangerous situation;

  • specific repetitive errors (SPK) are six non-critical errors while performing the same assessed action;

  • critical (CC) – an action that demonstrates an inappropriate level of skills, abilities or disrespect, carelessness of the examinee towards other road users. It may also pose or pose a threat to any road user, may interfere with or interfere with the safe operation of the vehicle, i.e. creates a potentially dangerous situation.

In order to pass the exam, a maximum of 8 non-critical errors and no critical and specific repetitive errors can be made.

To prepare for the "Regitra" practical exam more easily and avoid mistakes, it is useful to start by strengthening your theoretical knowledge. Free KET tests are a great way to get acquainted with the rules of the road and better prepare for the theory exam. This will help you gain the confidence necessary to successfully pass the practical exam, during which you must demonstrate your ability to drive a vehicle in real traffic conditions.

What are the driving assessment methods?

During the practical driving test at "Regitra", various driving nuances and knowledge that must be possessed by the test taker are taken into account. This includes the application of theoretical knowledge while driving and the ability to drive properly in real traffic conditions.

The knowledge required during the practical exam can be divided and described as follows:

  • pre-driving test questions – just before the practical driving test, the examiner will ask you 3 questions related to road safety and car operation. You can find all possible questions in the Register of Legal Acts.

  • General and critical driving errors are the most severely assessed errors during the exam, as they indicate the future driver's ability to ensure their own safety and that of other drivers and to drive in accordance with the rules of the road. Critical driving errors take into account aspects such as maintaining a safe distance, adhering to the permitted speed, and the ability to independently and independently control the vehicle.

  • non-critical and specific repetitive driving errors . When assessing these errors, the driver's ability to correctly select a gear in one or another situation, to properly control the accelerator and clutch pedal is taken into account. Errors of this type do not pose a critical threat on the roads in themselves, but they must still be avoided in order to ensure maximum safety on the road.

  • special driving maneuvers – ultimately, the driver's ability to properly perform turning maneuvers, move in acceleration and deceleration lanes, and properly park the car at 45-degree, 90-degree angles, and along the road is taken into account. Special driving maneuvers – the basics of driving, without which driving in real traffic would be impossible or extremely difficult.

Non-critical errors in the driving test

A maximum of 8 non-critical errors can be made during the exam. If a 9th non-critical error is made, the driving exam is considered failed.

Although 8 possible mistakes may seem like a small number, you shouldn't relax too much, as even the slightest infraction can count as a mistake. Some mistakes can be made simply because you're nervous about taking the test, so it's important to stay alert while driving.

What are the most common non-critical driving test mistakes?

  • Failure to demonstrate adequate knowledge in locating the devices indicated by the examiner, showing how they work, and controlling them. Not knowing how to check their condition, incorrectly answering theoretical questions about the car. This can be checked before driving.

  • Improperly fastened seat belt, starting the engine in the wrong gear or restarting it after it has already started.

  • Improper clutch control . The candidate releases the clutch pedal too quickly or too slowly when engaging gears, or controls it incorrectly - holding the clutch pedal down without engaging a gear.

  • Improper accelerator control . Excessive or insufficient pressure on the accelerator pedal when the clutch is not fully depressed or disengaged. The candidate allows the vehicle to coast both when starting and braking.

  • Poor gear selection . Incorrectly selected gear, not appropriate for the situation. Driving at excessively high revs when the situation does not require it. Driving in a gear that is too low or too high when the traffic does not require it. Ideally, you should drive at 50km/h - no lower than 4th gear, 70km/h - no lower than 5th gear.

What are the most common critical mistakes in the exam?

  • Errors that require the examiner to intervene verbally or physically to avoid a traffic accident or dangerous situation.

  • Failure to follow the examiner's instructions. This includes driving in the wrong direction, prohibited driving actions according to the Road Traffic Act .

  • Collision, entering a dangerous situation (for example, hitting/running into an obstacle).

  • Incorrect gear selection when it may cause a traffic hazard.

  • Using inappropriate equipment or not using essential equipment, such as not wearing a seat belt before starting a ride or performing a maneuver.

Tips to make it easier to prepare for the practical exam

  • Familiarize yourself with the exam criteria. By being familiar with the "Regitra" practical driving criteria, you will better understand what is expected of you and what to pay attention to while driving.

  • Choose the right time to take the exam. It is best to choose a time when there is not much traffic in the city. Early Saturday mornings or daytime on weekdays are best. Do not choose a time when everyone is late for work or rushing home after work. Many drivers do not follow the rules at that time.

  • Choose additional driving lessons with an instructor. If you feel unsure before taking your driving test at Regitra, arrange additional lessons with your driving instructor.

  • Practice with family members. If possible, practice driving in safer traffic with a family member. You can do this after passing the theory exam at Regitra. Try driving with a family member and on Regitra routes. The family member may not remember the exact exam assessment criteria, but it will help you understand how to drive a car on the road.

After taking all the advice into account, successfully passing the school driving test, and feeling confident in your abilities, boldly go take the practical test at Regitra!
